Cool Stuff no.3

I'm kind of excited about this week, because I get to post one of my favorite Taiwanese singers/actresses! I know we covered China this week, but Taiwan is pretty much considered as part of China anyways. Here is Rainie Yang!

I wanted to take martial art as a kid, because I watched too many choreographed fight scences, but all of my motivation mysteriously disappeared after I moved to America, haha :).

Chinese college students get bored too, and this is what they do in their free time! These guys are actually everywhere on Youtube. I used to watch them all the time, but I didn't know they did a video on Peking Opera. Anywho, here is a lipsynch video!

  1. The bored college students made me laugh! I did not realize that choreographed martial arts was so popular for women in Asian cultures! That was very interesting, and a little startling at first. The music video was beautiful and very melancholy.

  2. Wow, you have some very interesting videos on this cool stuff blog. The women choreographed fight scene reminded me of the american version of wrestling, except with a sword. Is this considered a sport? Do people watch it for entertainment? Would like to know more.

  3. Thanks for introducing Rainie Yang. I have a favorite Chinese singer now ^0^.
That choreographed fight scene was amazing! That must have taken a lot of practice.
That Opera was pretty funny by the way.

  4. The college students were hilarious. They reminded me of people making fun of opera by wearing a viking hat and belting at the top of their lungs. Even though our cultures are so different, you can find similarities in the most unlikely places. I love that. Also, I've never heard of the sport of choreographed martial arts. Is that common?

  8. The Rainie Yang video was really interesting, in that it sounded pretty much exactly like similar songs from America (except for the language, of course.) Even the lyrics seemed familiar--I'm glad they had the translations on the video.
